Carmeline Taiello is a Belgian photographer, maker, painter, graphic

artist, video artist and author, born in 1972. OCULORUM is her first

book and the first in a series of the same name covering years of photographic work.

What was on offer was not to my taste.

A Woman is the first volume in the Oculorum series by Brussels-based photographer Carmeline Taiello.

With the #MeToo movement women all over the world have found their voices. Yet, since 2007 we have also seen all kinds of resistance, suspicion, mockery and argument. There’s a lot still to do.  

This book is one woman’s testimony, for women and men, for our daughters and sons.  

To get away from depressing statistics of the violence and abuse that are still far too widespread, we urgently need to join forces through both writing and the expressive capabilities of art, which are sometimes more eloquent and direct.

Perhaps one day we will be able to say, “This is one small step for women, one giant leap for humankind”.
